We believe that we are called to serve God by serving the world and the community around us. St. Luke’s is a church in mission. Our stated mission is “strengthening families” of all types with an emphasis on giving of both time and resources.
Some of the agencies St. Luke’s supports are:
Harbor Interfaith Services (HIS) – The lead agency for homelessness in Los Angeles County and a regional social service agency in San Pedro that provides food assistance, emergency and transitional housing for homeless families, and life skill training training.
Department of Children & Family Services (DCFS) – St. Luke’s primarily works with the Torrance office of DCFS through its Faith Council and with individual social workers for specific client needs. Pastor Sunny serves on the Los Angeles County Board as Faith Representative.
Project:NEEDS – A project to feed the homeless started by St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Redondo Beach, which we assist by providing home-cooked casseroles bi-monthly.
Habitat for Humanity – A volunteer program making the dream of home ownership possible for low income families. We have actively participated in several Habitat Builds.
CROP Hunger Walk – An annual interfaith walk to raise money for CROP/Church World Service relieving world hunger and poverty. Twenty-five percent of the funds raised support local hunger programs.
Special activities include the 2015 Los Angeles County Homeless Count, Climate Action Forums and The Trevor Project suicide-prevention training for the community, DCFS Annual Appreciation Brunches, and Christmas gifts for HIS transitional housing families.
